The Chair of the Power Cycle Chemistry Working Group, David Addision, is very pleased to announce the next in the series of the International Association for the Properties of Water and Steam (IAPWS) PCC webinars to be presented by our esteemed IAPWS and PCC members Dr Barry Dooley and Dr Bobby Svoboda
This webinar is on Steam Turbine PTZ Damage, Failure, and Steam Purity Requirements and is kindly hosted and supported by COMBINED CYCLE Journal (https://www.ccj-online.com)
Dr Barry Dooley and Dr Bobby Svoboda are world-renowned water/steam chemistry and materials experts. They will both provide an enlightening and informative webinar on steam chemistry, phase transition zones and damage and failure mechanisms that impact on steam turbines.
The major steam turbine failures and damage occur in the phase transition zone (PTZ) of the LP turbine and are influenced by the cycle chemistry used on the plant. The damage mechanisms of interest are stress corrosion cracking (SCC), corrosion fatigue (CF), pitting and deposits. Each of these is illustrated during the presentation along with the multiple processes (carryover, condensate and liquid film formation) that occur and result in the damage. IAPWS developed a Technical Guidance Document (TGD) which provides guidance on chemistry limits and actions to identify and address harmful operating and control practices.
There will be an opportunity to submit questions during the webinar that Barry and Bobby and the PCC team will do their best to answer at the end.
When: March 31, 2026 03:00 PM London/UTC
