Webinars

Welcome to the IAPWS Power Cycle Chemistry (PCC) Group webinar series, featuring presentations from leading experts in our international community. These sessions provide valuable insights into the latest research, best practices, and technical developments in power cycle chemistry and water/steam properties.

Webinar: Chemistry issues of water-cooled generators and other electrical machines

Dr. Bobby Svoboda presented the fourth webinar of the IAPWS Power Cycle Chemistry Working Group on 27 May 2026: Chemistry issues of water-cooled generators and other electrical machines

With generator water cooling only a few problem areas related to corrosion and deposits have emerged in more than 70 years of history. With copper hollow conductors, the most common and severe problem is plugging of copper hollow conductors. Other problem areas, mainly limited to specific designs, are crevice corrosion between the brazing and the hollow conductors (“clip-to-strand leak”), plugging of strainers, and conductive deposits inside of insulating hoses. In addition, features and experiences with stainless steel hollow conductors will be given. This webinar addresses those problems and gives guidance for avoidance from the IAPWS Technical Guidance Document which can be downloaded here - https://iapws.org/documents/techguide/Generator

Steam Turbine PTZ Damage, Failure, and Steam Purity Requirements

Dr. Barry Dooley and Dr. Bobby Svoboda presented the third webinar of the IAPWS Power Cycle Chemistry Working Group on 31 March 2026: Steam Turbine PTZ Damage, Failure, and Steam Purity Requirements.
