Benefits from Participation

Participating in IAPWS working groups can provide individuals, companies and institutions with a wide range of unique benefits, including:

  • Networking and knowledge sharing with global experts: Gaining insights into best practices and emerging solutions.
  • Exposure to cutting-edge research and technologies: Informing strategies for future product development and investments.
  • Personal development: Enhancing expertise, particularly if the participant is able to regularly attend IAPWS meetings, which can be brought back to the employer company or institution.
  • International perspective on industry challenges: Understanding global approaches to water/steam issues.
  • Direct contribution to leading IAPWS collaborations and technical outputs: Influencing global standards and research impacting our target industry areas.

To support IAPWS participation, the Power Cycle Chemistry working group has produced two “justification” letters for people wanting to attend meetings. These can also be used by other working group attendees as the basis for similar approval requests.

  1. A shorter version that could be used by someone in a supplier or other industry related company.
  2. A longer version that would/could be used by anyone in a power generation or industrial power plant.

A comprehensive understanding of the properties of water and steam will continue to be needed for science and industry. IAPWS is also the logical place to develop standards for accurate consensus standards for the properties of other non-ideal gases and fluids (e.g. carbon dioxide, hydrogen).
